KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday assured the MQM that he would advise Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to develop a consensus on various issues raised by the MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
Earlier, the MQM chief had proposed that a roundtable conference of all the political and religious parties should be convened to chalk out a future line of action to deal with the threats posed to the country.
Altaf Hussain wants that all political and religious parties should come together and chalk out a future line of action in order to save the country. MQM leader Raza Haroon told journalists this at the Bilawal House on Monday after a meeting of an MQM delegation with President Zardari.
The delegation discussed with the president issues pertaining to the coalition and the situation in Karachi and Sindh. The delegation included Dr Farooq Sattar, Begum Nasreen Jalil, Senator Babar Khan Ghori, Raza Haroon, Sagheer Ahmed and Mohammad Adil Siddiqui. According to officials, President Zardari appreciated the role of the MQM in strengthening the democratic system and supporting the political reconciliation policy of the PPP. He said that the delegation conveyed the MQM chief’s apprehensions about the country’s security, sovereignty and integrity to the president. He further said that the MQM leaders also conveyed serious reservations of the party on extortion and kidnapping for ransom cases. He said that the local bodies issue also came under discussion at the meeting and MQM leaders shared the party’s views about the proposed local bodies system for Sindh and Karachi.
Meanwhile, President Zardari called for expediting the pace of development work on various ongoing schemes in Lyari and in other parts of Karachi to provide maximum facilities to the people.
