LAHORE: A delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement will meet President Asif Zardari in Islamabad to discuss the current situation of Karachi and other matters related to the coalition.

 

Besides, the MQM delegation, on the special instructions of party quaid Altaf Hussain, is also expected to meet the national leadership including ANP chief Asfandyar Wali, PML-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain and Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Munawar Hassan to develop consensus over different issues including Karachi bloodshed, Balochistan tension, local government and general elections.

 

In this connection, the Muttahida delegation will hold its first meeting with President Asif Zardari at the presidency, said sources and added MQM delegation, which will include Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghouri, Raza Haroon and Waseem Aftab, is expected to take up the issue of Karachi violence, local government elections and the general elections.

 

Sources also revealed Sunday, MQM leadership has also sent a request to ANP leader Asfandyar Wali to meet him. The ANP leadership is yet to give a nod to the request sent by MQM as its leader Asfandyar Wali in facing health problems and had been advised to take rest for two weeks by doctors.

 

Sources said the ANP has sought time from MQM and it will respond to the request after receiving final instructions from the party leader. The ANP and MQM had been at loggerheads in Karachi as their workers had fallen victim to target killing in Karachi.

 

Similarly, the delegation is also expected to meet Munawar Hassan in Mansoorah Tuesday and Ch Shujaat. When contacted, Dr Farooq Sattar said the purpose of the meetings is to convey the message of Altaf Hussain for devising a strategy to counter all the issues. He said consensus among all the political forces is vital to address the challenges faced by the country and Muttahida is ready to meet everyone, including the PML-N.
