KARACHI: Sindh information minister on Saturday asked why the judiciary was not taking notice of alleged corruption committed by Sharifs.

Sharjeel Memon said that Sharifs committed $140 million corruption in Motorway project during their tenure. The PPP leader accused that Sharifs were allegedly involved in embezzlement worth Rs8 billion during last over four years in Punjab.

Speaking at a hurriedly called press conference at PPP Sindh media cell ostensibly to respond charges leveled by Nawaz Sharif in London against the PPP-led government, the information minister said that Punjab chief minister’s son Hamza Sharif gave contract of laptops to his friends and each laptop was purchased at the cost of Rs65,000 though its actual price was Rs32,000.

He asked why the courts were turning a blind eye to the corruption committed by Sharifs. He said that in Punjab law and order situation had deteriorated as compared to other provinces. The minister claimed that around 10,000 cases of kidnappings were registered in Punjab in one year only. He said judges in Faisalabad were ‘beaten’ but no one took suo moto notice of it. He said Shahbaz Sharif was claiming that they dismissed their party’s government in Sindh because it failed to arrest the killers of former governor Sindh Hakeem Saeed. Memon asked why Sharif was not dismissing his govt in Punjab as it had failed to recover son of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer who had been in the captivity of the kidnappers for the last two years.
