ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday sought a report from Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Fayyaz Leghari on the investigation in the Haj corruption case by July 2.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, was hearing a suo moto case of corruption in the Haj arrangements in 2010.
Despite the court’s earlier order, former investigation officer Hussain Asghar didn’t appear before the court.Joint Secretary Establishment Division informed the court that Hussain Asghar was informed about the court orders and the inquiry to be led against him if he did not follow them, adding that apparently he violated the court orders.
He further told the court that a competent officer had been nominated to take appropriate action against Hussain Asghar.The joint secretary Establishment Division submitted that a summary regarding the action to be taken against Hussain Asghar was forwarded to the prime minister on June 27.
During the hearing, the chief justice observed that the whole service structure had been affected. He told the joint secretary Establishment Division that he would be responsible if Hussain Asghar failed to report to the FIA.
Meanwhile, the court sought a report over the development in the case from DG FIA by July 2 and adjourned the case till July 3.On the last hearing, the court had ordered suspension of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilgit-Baltistan Hussain Asghar for not reporting back to the FIA headquarters.
The chief justice had ordered suspension of Hussain Asghar under Section 5 of Efficiency and Disciplinary Rules.
