ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Afghanistan Muhammad Umer Daudzai called on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar here at Foreign Office on Thursday.
The foreign minister informed the ambassador that the prime minister of Pakistan had accepted the invitation of Afghan President Hamid Karzai and was expected to visit Kabul in the near future. She also informed the envoy that she would lead the Pakistan delegation to the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan being held on July 8.
On the issue of containers carrying books for Afghan students, the foreign minister said that orders had been issued for the release of those containers. Hina conveyed Pakistan’s decision to allocate an amount of $ 20 million to support the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
Most of this amount will be used for capacity building and technical assistance to ANSF. During the meeting, the two sides also discussed issues related to border management especially in the back drop of the recent intrusion in Dir area by militants from the Afghan side. The foreign minister conveyed grave concern over increasing attacks on Pakistani border posts and stressed the need for decisive action by the Afghan government against the militants operating from Afghan soil.
