ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will break his silence in the wake of the verdict of the Supreme Court’s three-member bench of June 9 that deprived him the top slot of the country, in the election campaign of his son Abdul Qadir Gilani in Multan.

Abdul Qadir Gilani is contesting for the seat of the National Assembly from Multan’s constituency NA-151 that has fallen vacant as a result of the court’s verdict. Gilani will reveal details of the ‘conspiracy’ of which he has become victim and he had to lose the office of the chief executive of the country.

Abdul Qadir Gilani will be initiating his election campaign next week.Sources close to the former prime minister told The News here Sunday that Yusuf Raza Gilani would supervise the election campaign of his elder son and he has asked his younger son Syed Haider Gilani to submit his nomination papers along-with Abdul Qadir Gilani as covering candidate. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was interested in fielding Fiza Batool Gilani, daughter of the former prime minister, and at the same time the leadership was prepared to award ticket to former first lady Fauzia Gilani but the elders of the family and supporters of Gilani family urged Yusuf Raza Gilani to bring some male members of the family for the contest since all the adversaries of the PPP are getting united to fight for the seat in question.

Reports received from Multan suggest that people of the NA-151 constituency have sent messages to Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in a huge number that they would take revenge by ensuring the success of candidate nominated by him. Interestingly, Yusuf Raza Gilani’s father late Syed Almdar Hussain Gilani was also disqualified under the Elective Bodies Disqualification Order (EBDO) by the military government in 1958 for providing water to Multan city under the pretext that the shrine of Gilanis is also situated in Multan city and water supply will also be available to it.

The sources said that Yusuf Raza Gilani is in regular consultations with his constituents in Multan and it is expected that he would address two public meetings during the campaign for Abdul Qadir Gilani as he will launch campaign for him and then he will address the people on conclusion of the campaign where he will divulge a number of important points that are yet to come to surface, the sources said.

Gilani is providing political guidance to the PPP and the government in the process of policy framing. He is regularly interacting with President Asif Zardari and they regularly discuss the developments of their interest in the country, the sources said.
