ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has promulgated a new ordinance to legitimise all actions of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani during the period April 26 to June 19.The ordinance has been ensured to be “iron-clad” that will counter any challenge posed by any quarter and will also not be challengeable in any court of law (including the Supreme Court).
The ordinance issued by President Zardari on Sunday says, “This ordinance has been introduced in light of aftermath of the notification regarding disqualification of Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani as prime minister, and short verdict of the Supreme Court (circa-19, Jun 2012), over various constitutional petitions.”
The “Legal cause ordinance,” — issued in accordance with the powers conferred on the president as according to Article 89 (section-1) — maintains that it is of considerable importance that all legislation carried out by the disqualified PM Gilani should be given legal cover and acceptance in order to ensure that all assembly and Senate proceedings continue, unperturbed.
All actions performed by Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani under the official capacity of PM, including parliamentary decisions, directives issued, MOUs, international accords, official messaging, advice rendered to president including act ordinances, or/and other legal documents, powers conferred and appointments, have been given constitutional protection.
The second section of the ordinance, issued under the signatures of President Zardari and released by Secretary Law Justice (retd) Yasmeen Abbasi, also restricts any court action against any appointed official or ongoing implementation over any official directive as listed under section one of the ordinance.
