ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will vacate Prime Minister House today (Friday) before the completion of the process of election of his successor by the National Assembly in the evening.

He will be shifting to the Sindh House for the time being. Former first lady Fauzia Gilani arrived here Thursday and joined her husband in the farewell dinner hosted by him in the honour of the staff of the PM House and their spouses.

The outgoing prime minister lived in the PM House for more than four years and three months which is the longest period any prime minister lived in the PM House. Interestingly the site for the PM House was selected by Gilani when he was federal minister for housing in late Muhammad Khan Junejo’s cabinet in early 80s.

Well placed sources told The News here Thursday that Sindh government had offered Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to become its honoured guest in the picturesque Sindh House in the federal capital. Late Begum Nusrat Bhutto had also opted to stay in the Sindh House when she was the senior minister.

It is likely that one of the two major compounds of the Sindh House allocated for the provincial governor and chief minister would be allotted to Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for the residential purposes.

The renovation of the compounds has already been completed by the Sindh House administration. The portion has bigger accommodation than what is available in the PM House exclusively. Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani will also maintain his office in the same compound and it has comparatively better and more reliable security system, the sources said.
