ISLAMABAD: Jubilant workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) here Tuesday distributed sweets and danced to the tune of drums to celebrate the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani as prime minister.
On a short notice of the PTI Islamabad chapter, several excited activists and workers of the party gathered outside the National Press Club under the blazing sky to celebrate the occasion.
Male and female workers of Imran Khan’s party carried banners inscribed with tributes to the Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the historic judgment.The participants included Nafeesa Khattak, Fauzia Arshad, Jamil Abbasi and Javed Iqbal. The PTI activists also chanted slogans of ‘go Zardari go’ and ‘go Gilani go’. “Before the law and judiciary, peons and PM are equal and today’s verdict has proved it again,” retorted PTI Islamabad Steering Committee member Ali Nawaz, while speaking on the occasion.
Another speaker said the latest judgment was a proof that the judiciary today was independent and that no pressure could influence its functioning and verdicts.He said the PTI organised the event in a hurry to express solidarity with the Supreme Court and urged it to continue with the dispensation of justice, as the entire nation stood with the apex court.
Our correspondent adds from Muzaffargarh: The PML-N and its Youth Wing activists celebrated the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani here Tuesday. PML-N activists took out a rally from Chowk Qanwan to Jhang Chowk in which more than 500 activists including 100 motorcyclists participated.
The rally’s participants led by Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmed Khan distributed sweets at Kutcheri Chowk and shouted slogans in favour of the judiciary and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Speaking on the occasion, Nawabzada Iftikhar said that Gilani and his team had deprived the nation of electricity, natural gas, dignity, prestige, jobs and their feed and put the 190 million people in trouble. Rao Zafar Iqbal, PML-N Youth Wing district president, said that the judiciary had saved the country.
Earlier, hundreds of PML-N workers came out on roads after the announcement of the judgment and fired crackers to express their happiness.PML-N leader Sardar Abdul Haye Khan and others distributed sweets at Jhang Mor Chowk.

ARIFWALA: Workers of PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and PML-N celebrated the Supreme Court verdict disqualifying Yusuf Raza Gilani as premier.The parties’ workers used fireworks, crackers and danced in jubilation to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision. They distributed sweets among people and kept greeting each others. They said President Asif Ali Zardari should announce general elections.
