MUZAFFARABAD: Saying that no good is expected from the government, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that by taking up the Dr Arsalan Iftikhar case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has proven nobody is above the law.

 

Addressing a public gathering at Athmuqam in Neelum Valley, the PML-N chief said that some people were trying to blackmail the chief justice by implicating his son in the so-called corruption case. He said the chief justice took a historic step by summoning his own son before the court and the PML-N commended his action. “The CJ, after bringing his son to the palisade, has proven that there is nothing superior than justice,” he said.

 

Nawaz Sharif said Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has proven once again that everyone is equal before justice. He said the PML-N played a key role in the restoration of judiciary and the nation would now back the judges.

 

Nawaz Sharif called the present government worse than a dictatorship and said it was busy finding new ways to do corruption. He said had the charter of democracy been implemented, it would have been better for the country.

 

Talking to the party workers, Nawaz Sharif promised that whenever he came to power, a motorway would be constructed to connect the capitalcity to Neelum Valley and a university would also be set up.

 

Giving away Rs500,000 each on behalf of the Punjab government to the families of soldiers belonging to Bagh, Battiyan and Muzaffarabad districts martyred in the Gayari sector, the PML-N said he had come to Kashmir to share the grief of heirs of the great sons of the country who sacrificed their lives for the defence of country.

 

Leader of the opposition in Azad Kashmir and PML-N AJK chief Raja Farooq Haider, PML-N District President Raja Arif Khan and Disaster Management Authority Director General Sher Dil Khan also addressed the gathering. The PML-N chief said he would help the Kashmiri people every chance he got.
