Karachi: The wave of target killings continued in the city late on Saturday night as five people were gunned down within a short span of 30 minutes, bringing the death toll on Saturday to nine.
Three unidentified persons were gunned down in the Gadap City police limits. The incident happened on Saturday night near the Nagoria Society Stop. SP Gadap Jan Mohammed Birhamani said that the police rushed to the spot where they found three persons lying dead.
During the inspection of the crime scene it was found that the deceaseds’ hands were tied with ropes and they were gagged.
Moreover, witnesses told the police that late on Saturday night unidentified persons driving a Double Cabin jeep and a Toyota Corolla car stopped at the site and threw the persons out from the car and opened indiscriminate fire, killing them on the spot. The police had found empty shells of 9mm and TT pistols from the spot.
SP Birhamani said that no identification cards were found from the deceased persons, who were wearing
shalwar kameez and had beards.
He added that it was too early to confirm any motive. A case was reported and investigation is under way.
In yet another case, Asif Ashraf and Ayub’s tortured and bullet riddle bodies were found from Baghdadi.
SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi of Baghdadi Police Station said that one body was found lying near the ICI Bridge while another was lying near the Marra Para close to the docks.
He added that the bodies were shifted to CHK, Some people reached the hospital and identified the deceased as Asif Ashraf and Ayub a resident of Khada market, Lyari.
SHO Afridi said that the deceased were kidnapped from Khada market on Saturday night by unidentified accused persons who took the victims to Marra Para near the ICI Bridge where they opened random fire and fired shots at them and fled.
Investigators termed the murder of both as part of the series of target killings and added that the deceased were supporters of the MQM. A case was reported and investigation is under way.
