Maqsood Khan Qureshi, brother of the deceased, confirmed that Bashir Khan had died due to cardiac arrest.

Hundreds of Sindhi nationalists and civil society members gathered at the late Sindhi leader’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar residence in Karachi as news of his demise broke, reported a Sindhi news channel.

Bashir Khan, 54, was at his political colleague Fahim Magsi’s house in Sakrand where he had come from Karachi. He was reported to have been there in order to attend a wedding ceremony the next day and then to travel to Larkana. However, after dining with his friends at Fahim Magsi’s house, Bashir Khan felt unwell and was taken to the Taluka hospital. He was pronounced dead after a little while, and the cause of death was declared to be severe cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife, four sons and four daughters.

The son of Ghulam Murtaza Qureshi, Bashir was born on 10 August 1959 at Motan Pur Mohalla in Ratodero, Larkana, Sindh. He is said be among the top nationalist leaders of Sindh. He remained in prison on grounds of his nationalistic activities for a period of six years and 10 months at various times. He rose to be the chairman of JSQM in 1998. He was in prison during the formation of this faction of the Sindhi nationalist party Jeay Sindh.

Asif Baladi, the Central General Secretary of JSQM, told a Sindhi news channel that chances of a conspiracy resulting into the death of their dear chairman cannot be ignored and the party leadership will investigate into the sad incident. Bashir Khan will be laid to rest in Ratodero, Larkana, in his ancestral village today.
