The forsaken

This refers to the article, ‘The forsaken’ (November 14) by Iftekhar A Khan. The article has correctly highlighted the ordeal that the pensioners in Punjab are going through. All provincial governments have complied with the court orders with regard to the restoration of the withheld portion of pensions except Punjab where the government headed by Shahbaz Sharif took the plea that it lacks the funds and will pay the outstanding arrears as well as the double pensions in seven years.
The Punjab CM is known as a person who excelled all his counterparts in other provinces in all fields of governance. One wonders how he can stumble over a matter where senior citizens, whose only livelihood depends on pensions, are involved. Although this noncompliance with the Supreme Court ruling amounts to contempt of court, how can one expect a retired and elderly person to follow the case again?
