Until now the fight against Isis has been spearheaded separately by Russia and the US. However, in the aftermath of the Paris attack and the downing of a Russian passenger jet there is talk of an anti-Isis global alliance, with Russia, France and the US joining forces.
China has hitherto been on the sidelines of the fight against Isis and has not been directly involved in military operations. However, with the execution of a Chinese national, Isis seems to have attracted the ire of the Chinese government as well. President Xi Jinping has termed the execution ‘an act that raises pressure on China to take a greater role’ in the fight against Isis. The killing can very well make China join hands against, what President Xi referred to as, ‘the common enemy of humanity’. With China having bared its teeth and with the anti-Isis global alliance emerging, the battlefield is all set for the ‘clash of the titans.’ Only time will tell who the victors will be. All we can do is hope and pray that no more innocent lives are lost.
