This refers to the editorial, ‘The battle of Karachi’ (August 29). The editorial has touched upon a burning issue involving two major political parties of Sindh. The way the PPP leadership has reacted to Dr Asim’s arrest is unfair. No one is above the law. Crime and politics are two different things. It is true that Dr Asim Hussain has been charged with helping finance terror and the Rangers should have collected substantial evidence before taking such a step. What surprised many is the reaction of Khursheed Shah. No one uttered the name of Zardari while Dr Asim was taken into custody. Is this not enough to draw some conclusions?
The fact is that the Sindh government is doing practically nothing to tackle corruption and crime. The people of Karachi are very happy with the Rangers and want the operation to go on. Any compromise at this stage will jeopardise the whole operation and plunge us into greater instability.
