Last year’s floods were caused mainly by a sudden release of water by India. First, India filled its dams at the expense of our share of water by violating the Indus Waters Treaty. Then in rainy days they opened the gates of dams and flooded our rivers (especially River Chenab) beyond capacity. What happened afterwards was destruction. Our leaders had photo sessions with flood victims. This year India did the same but fortunately the loss was not as much as last year’s.
Why can our leaders not make India abide by the Indus Waters Treaty? It is strange that our leaders contemplate a thousand times when it comes to increasing wages.. Is the loss of billions of rupees due to floods every year not a burden on the national treasury?
