This summer saw an unprecedented, devastating heatwave in Sindh, especially in Karachi, where according to media reports 1,200 people have died due to heatstroke. Our rulers need to explain to the people why they failed to protect the country from pollution which is one of the main reasons for this record temperature in Karachi. Why are there so few trees and parks in Karachi? If we had enough trees and parks in Karachi the mercury would not have shot up as high as 48 degrees Centigrade.
To make matters worse, we have unprecedented loadshedding and that too in Ramazan. What has the Nawaz government done so far to overcome loadshedding? How many power thieves has the government caught and punished so far? What has the government done to reduce line losses? Since the government has failed to reduce power theft and line losses at least the federal and state ministers of water and power should resign. The PML-N government is claiming that there will be no loadshedding towards the end of 2017. But adding more power generation capacity and producing more electricity without controlling line losses and power theft will be like pouring water into a leaking bucket.
