The biggest threat to democracy and its future role in Pakistan is posed by corruption and immoral practices adopted by political parties, their leadership and the lack of ethics essential for any system to succeed.
Time has never been a factor when it comes to protecting the vested selfish interests of those in power and legislating laws overnight or issuing ordinances. What we have never seen is emergency legislation to protect the lives and property of ordinary citizens or punishing paid public office-holders for their acts of omission, causing billions of rupees in losses due to tax evasion or by other illegal means. How can we expect our leadership and paid public office-holders to stand up and protect our national interests or security concerns when they themselves are under some kind of obligation to foreign countries where their assets lie or their families reside?
