This refers to the government’s decision, at the end of its tenure, to give an unprecedented Rs100 billion bailout package to the national airline, without putting into place a mechanism to ensure that the airline is not abused by any government or by its powerful surplus employees.

Under the watch of the present government, PIA’s liabilities have exceeded Rs180 billion since 2008, its accumulated losses jumped from Rs42 billion – in 2008 – to Rs150 billion by December 2012, while its lucrative routes were given to foreign airlines, in violation of all bilateral agreement norms.
