This is with reference to Dr Sa’ad B Malik’s article ‘Doctors young and old’ which appeared in The News of July 16, in which he highlighted the unjust treatment meted out to young doctors and the sufferings of the poor patients. It is a pity that young doctors do not even have the basic service structure and are being treated shabbily. Senior doctors, with a few exceptions, are least concerned about the plight and basic rights of young doctors. They are also least bothered about the healthcare problems of their patients.

In the past, senior doctors were considered role models. They worked day and night with devotion and dedication. That was the reason why they were respected by patients and junior doctors alike. It is high time senior doctors fulfilled their basic duties and responsibilities of protecting and safeguarding the basic needs and rights of their patients and junior doctors.
