The enactment of the new contempt law has invited much criticism as it is widely believed that the law has been formulated to save the incumbent PM and his cabinet. The contempt law is going to give cover to around 100 people who’ll be free to defy the judiciary if they so wish.

Making a law for a few people is against the spirit of the rule of law. Anti-constitutional legislation is not allowed in any democratic set-up but the ruling clique of our country has done it.

When a country makes laws with the sole purpose of benefiting some individuals or victimising opponents of those who are in power, it ceases to be called a sovereign country. Pakistan is no exception. All laws must be for the good of the people.
