One cannot recall any good steps taken by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf during his tenure as water and power minister. How can this hapless nation forget about the rental power case?

In his first high-level meeting as prime minister he reportedly suggested that Pakistan revert to a five-days week to somehow improve the productivity of government offices. The decision of two offs a week was one of several measures taken by the government before the last summer to bring down electricity consumption because at that time it was estimated by the ministry of water and power that between 2,000 and 3,000 MW would be conserved by having two weekly off days.

The energy conference held last month had also reiterated that the five-day week should continue as it saved electricity. It is not the matter of how many days a week we work. The key to improvement is for our top leaders to change their mindset. They should shift their loyalties to this country from the interests of their own parties.
