This refers to the news report ‘Shoot-on-sight orders given to police in Karachi’ (June 18). Acting CCPO Karachi Ghulam Shabir Shaikh has advised the people to benefit from the law of self-defence, according to which they can shoot the criminals in self-defence.

But I am afraid his advice does not carry any legal authority. Can this advice be quoted in any court of law if a person is charged with murdering someone on the pretext of self-defence?
