US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton thinks Ayman al-Zawahiri is living in Pakistan. After Osama bin Laden, the imperial power has found a new game to pursue. Chasing the so-called terrorists is a never-ending pursuit and it’s designed that way. The US has the best-equipped military machine in the world. It cannot afford its machine sitting idle at home, rusting; it must invade countries with natural resources or strategic importance, and in the process enslaving large populations. The Guantanamo and Bagram prisons are known for torture.

The superpower decries human rights abuses in countries not following its agenda. Who knows, someday the US might claim al-Zawahiri was hiding in Kahuta. However, Eric Margolis in his recent article –”Osama’s Almost Letter to Me” – quotes US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta as saying that there are no more than 25 men of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. I wish to remind Hillary Clinton that the US is taking the joke of terrorism too far. Give the poor Pakistanis and Afghans some breathing space. The ordinary people of the two countries, on hearing ‘Americans’, turn red.

The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has vowed to take a similar unilateral action like that of the Operation Geronimo, if needed, to apprehend Al-Qaeda’s new chief Aymen al-Zawahiri. The only way to remove the embarrassment of Osama’s presence in Pakistan was and is for us to act and eliminate al-Zawahiri and all other Al-Qaeda leaders, who may be hiding in Pakistan. For Pakistan to act against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda men within its territory has become all the more necessary after the frequent Taliban ambushes and incidents of beheading.

The war has in fact entered its decisive phase and Pakistan is left with no option but to march ahead without looking back. A look-back is more dangerous than the move-forward. Why should we give yet another opportunity to the Americans to go for a unilateral action to further embarrass Pakistan and its security agencies? Why not cooperate with them in finding out and fighting out these terrorists who are the real cause of huge disasters which threaten the very existence of Pakistan?
