Aqeel clinches Masters Cup

KARACHI: Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan completed hat-trick of men’s singles titles as he defeated Muhammad Abid in the final of the Hassan Tariq Rahim Masters Cup at the hard courts of Lahore Gymkhana Club in Lahore on Sunday.
Aqeel proved his dominance in the domestic tennis circuit as he thrashed Muhammad Abid 6-1, 6-2. In women’s singles final, Pakistan No 2 Sarah Mehboob defeated stubborn Rida Khalid, recording a 7-5, 7-5 victory.
In the boys under-18 final, Muzammil Murtaza overpowered Aman Attique, registering a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory.
Aqeel pocketed Rs100,000, while Abid took home Rs50,000. The duo of Aqeel and Abid received Rs60,000 each for winning men’s doubles event. The runners-up, Shehzad Khan and Yasir Khan, got Rs30,000 each.
Sarah bagged Rs50,000 and the runner-up Rida received Rs25,000. Boys under-18 winner Muzamil received Rs40,000 and Aman took home Rs20,000.
