KARACHI: Pakistan’s Olympic prospect Shah Hussain will be put to a real test when he locks horns with World No2 Gasimov Elmar of Azerbaijan in his -100kg opening bout of the Judo Grand Prix 2015 in Jeju, South Korea, on Saturday (today).
Shah, son of Pakistan’s Olympic bronze medallist boxer Hussain Shah, needs to do well against his strong rival as it will help him get some points which may later pave his way for an Olympic berth.
The 22-year-old Shah, ranked 43rd in the world, has improved a lot during the last few months and is expected to show spark in his fight.
“Shah has improved. I have seen his fights and I am confident he will not give up easily,” PJF secretary Masood Ahmed told ‘The News’.
“On Thursday I contacted him and he was confident,” he said. In the event, 70 nations of the world are fielding 418 judokas, including 182 women.
