KARACHI: PHF’s president Khalid Sajjad Khokhar has said that there would be no further delay in hockey activities in the country in general and juniors in particular as their important assignments are drawing closer.
Talking to ‘The News’ from Islamabad, Khokhar said that PHF would soon decide and announce the details related to the national junior string’s preparation and training camp and its officials. “We are considering a few names and hockey lovers will not have to wait for long to get the details,” he said.
He declined to name those under consideration for the management of junior hockey team. But he was quick to add that the names would be finalised soon.
Former players said that the new president would have to take a few decisions soon, especially about juniors.
Assistant coaches of the junior team have resigned. Chief coach Manzoorul Hasan has not resigned, but a source said it seemed that he would not be part of the junior team management.
The Junior Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in October in Malaysia, but the junior players have been away from the training camp for past several months.
It is not yet clear how the junior team will be selected as the national selection committee has resigned. The former junior selection committee selected 35 players but their training has remained suspended for several months.
The Junior World Cup is to be held in India in 2016. The Asia Cup 2015 is the qualifying round for the Junior World Cup.
Pakistan must secure any of the first three positions in the Asia Cup to secure their berth in the Junior World Cup.
