KARACHI: Usman Chand and Abu Bakar Siddique failed to qualify for the main round but achieved their personal best in skeet category of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday.
At the end of second qualification day, Usman scored 118 (24, 23, 23, 24, 24) and Abu Bakar hit 115 (22, 23, 23, 25, 22) which were to be their personal best scores at any international competition. However, star shooter of the country Khurrum Inam was not up to the mark as he could only manage 109 (20, 22, 21, 23, 23).
The highest score of Sialkot’s Usman in skeet-125 category was 115, which he hit in the Asian Shotgun Championship in Incheon last year, while he only scored 110 in World Cup in Granada in.
Similarly, Abu Bakar’s best performance was 113 in the Asian Shotgun championship held in Almaty 2013, while in the last edition of Al-Ain’s championship he hit 112.
It is worth adding here that five shooters from Pakistan took part in this world cup as part of their campaign to earn quota places for Rio Olympics. Aamer Iqbal participated in Trap and Double Trap events. He scored 112 in Trap-125 category which is one point below the score he managed in the last edition.
He scored 122 in Double Trap-150 category, which is also quite low, compared to the 128 he hit in the last edition of this championship. Fakhar-ul-Islam Qureshi was another athlete who took part in trap-125 category and scored 109. He scored 116 in the same category last year.
