KARACHI: Promising leg-spinner Shahzaib Ahmed picked ten wickets in the match to put K-Electric in the semi-finals as they routed Sindh Police by an innings and 16 runs on the second day of their three-day game of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II here at RLCA Ground on Thursday.
Shahzaib captured 6-61, for a match-haul of 10-91, to dismiss Sindh Police for only 137 in their second innings after follow-on.
Waqas Mehboob scored 30.
Shahzaib was ably backed by his fellow spinner Faraz Ahmed Khan who took 3-43, for a match tally of 7-91.
Earlier, in response to K-Electric’s 309, Sindh Police perished for only 156 after resuming their first innings at 116-6.
Shahzaib got 4-30, while off-spinner Misbah Khan captured 2-28.
With this, K-Electric wrapped up their league journey with 36 points. They will face Group C winners Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in the semi-finals at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, from March 30.
In a Group B show, at Sheikhupura Stadium, Candyland were on the verge of defeat as after follow-on they were reeling at 156-7 in their second innings against KPT.
Adnan Haroon belted 45. Yasir Hussain claimed 3-31, while Raza Ali Dar bagged 2-34.
Candyland need 16 more runs to avert an innings defeat.
Earlier, in response to KPT’s first innings score of 425-4, Candyland resumed the day at 21-2 and were folded for 254. Adnan Haroon smashed 58 with ten fours. Mohammad Bilal remained not out on 40. Pacer Adeel Malik got 5-80, while Bilawal and Yasir Hussain claimed two wickets each.
In an important Group D match, at Khayaban-e-Amin Ground, Lahore, Khayaban-e-Amin blasted their way into the semi-finals when they romped to an innings and 72 runs victory over Services Industries to end at the summit with 36 points.
Shakeel Ahmed (150*) and Yasir Ajmal (114*) guided Khayaban-e-Amin to 406-7 declared in reply to Services Industries’ first innings total of 133.
Zaheer Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 5-105.
Having conceded 273-run lead, Services Industries perished for 201 in their second innings.
Farhan Asghar (46), Muntazir Mehdi (42) and Adil Akram (40) were the prominent scorers. Ali Moazzam got 5-44.
In another game of this group, Dollar East recorded their third win to end with 30 points when they crushed Income Tax by an innings and 98 runs at Stags Ground, Lahore.
Having conceded 235-run lead, Income Tax got all out for only 137 in their second innings. Azeem Ghumman got 4-31.
Income Tax had posted 130 in their first innings. In reply, Dollar East had piled up 365-8.
In an important Group B match, at Diamond Club Ground, Islamabad, NADRA were 70-2 in their second innings at stumps after having conceded 139 runs lead against Omar Associates.
If NADRA manage to draw the game they will reach the semi-finals. Omar Associates will move to the last four stage if they win.
NADRA had scored 119 in their first innings. In response, Omar Associates had posted 258-8.
In an inconsequential match of Group D at LCCA Ground, Lahore,
HEC declared their second innings at 275-6 to give Face Fresh a target of 383.
