KARACHI: Owais Ahmed Rehmani blasted a spectacular half century to guide defending champions Nazimabad Gymkhana to a five-wicket win over Peshawar Club in their Group A opener of the 2nd Pakistan Champions League here at Landhi Gymkhana Ground on Tuesday.

 

Owais Rehmani, who has played 16 first-class matches, hit 50 with seven fours to help Nazimabad race to the 126-run target in 16.4 overs after losing five wickets. Owais was extended good support by Zakir Malik with a fine 32. Dilawar Khan Orakzai took 4-25 for Peshawar.

 

Peshawar Club had scored 125-8 with Mohammad Rizwan, who had played a key role in his team’s victory over Riyadh Cricket Association the other day, playing a fine innings of 60, embellished with three fours and three towering sixes.

 

Mansoor Ahmad took 3-22 while Faraz Patel grabbed 2-32.

 

In a Group B match, Afghanistan Youth Cricket Club opened their mission with a 39-run triumph over United Sports at the RLCA Ground in Gulberg.

 

Afghanistan staged 172-2 with Imran Jannat hitting fiery 72 off 45 balls. He smashed five fours and as many sixes in his mighty knock. Abdul Qadir (28) and Samiullah Shinwari (27*) were the other prominent contributors.

 

Saeed Raza and Mohammad Irshad got two wickets each.

 

United Sports were bowled out for 133 in 18.3 overs. Usama Shah made 31-ball 35 with two fours while Zafar Katfar hammered 23-ball 33 with five boundaries. Abdullah Adil clinched 3-28 and Khaliq Dad Noori, the younger brother of the Afghanistan Cricket Federation founder Allah Dad Noori, picked 3-38.

 

In a Group E match, Al-Noor Gymkhana got their second consecutive victory when they defeated Tando Adam Tigers Cricket Club by seven wickets at the RLCA UP.

 

Tando Adam Tigers were restricted to 98-7 in the stipulated 20 overs. Sohail Asif hit fiery 38 off 23 balls with three fours and four sixes while Taj Wasan scored 27-ball 21 with one four and a six. Jalat Khan grabbed 3-16.

 

Al-Noor Gymkhana raced to the target after losing two wickets. Fawad Alam top-scored with 45 off 40 balls with five fours and a six, while Anop Ravi made 34 off 38 balls with one four. Pervez claimed 2-12.

 

In another Group A game, Khan Sports defeated Riyadh Cricket Association by six wickets. Riyadh were bundled out for 105 in 19.5 overs. Nasir Abbasi belted 30 off 24 deliveries with two huge sixes. Former Test off-spinner Arshad Khan contributed 23 while Raja Gulraiz made 22 not out with two boundaries. Mohsin Khan claimed 4-11, Raees Arain got 3-23 while Naeemur Rehman bagged 2-23.

 

Khan Sports achieved the target in 16.1 overs after losing four wickets. Zahid Khan smashed 61 with three sixes and three fours. Mohammad Asghar clinched 2-21.

 

Muslim Gymkhana, Lahore, defeated SST Club Dammam from Saudi Arabia by five wickets. Dammam, who lost their second consecutive Group F game, were all out for 122 in 19.4 overs. Rizwan Qayyum made 30 with two fours while Imran Farooqi scored 27 with six boundaries. Junaid Jan bowled superbly with figures of 5-16 while Farhan Nazar captured 2-17. Muslim Gymkhana raced to the target in 19.1 overs. Usman Salahuddin, the most consistent run-getter in first-class cricket, hit 62 with six boundaries while Mohsin Pervez made 20. Wasim Malik picked 2-17.
