PESHAWAR: The protests against a sacrilegious film produced in the US continued for the fourth consecutive day as different political parties and trade unions took out rallies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas on Sunday. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Peshawar district chapter, staged a protest rally on the Grand Trunk Road. The participants carrying banners chanted slogans against America and Israel. They marched from Hashtnagri to Shabistan Cinema Chowk where Senator Ghulam Ali and others addressed the protesters.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also staged protest to condemn the release of the blasphemous movie. The PTI activists chanted slogans against the US and Israel. They set on fire an effigy of US President Barack Obama to vent their anger. Another rally was held by traders in the Cantonment area where the participants marched through various streets and bazaars and chanted anti-US slogans.Holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-US slogans, they demanded exemplary punishment to the producer of the film. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen also staged a rally. The participants marched on the Sher Shah Suri Road and held protest near the Peshawar Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Wazir Hussan Turabi and Arshad Ali Haideri said the US and Israel had joined hands to hurt the sentiments of the Muslims. The film, they said, was a conspiracy to shock the Muslims all over the world. All the protests culminated peacefully and almost all the speakers unanimously asked the rulers of the Islamic countries to lodge protest with the US. They urged the government to sever ties with the US and pull out of the so-called war on terror. They called for efforts to forge unity among the Muslims to foil the conspiracies of the anti-Islam forces. The speakers hit out at rulers of the Islamic countries for their silence over the conspiracy of the West and US to malign Islam. A similar rally was held at the Charsadda Road under the banner of Jamaat-e-Islami. The protesters holding banners and posters inscribed with anti-US and anti-Israel slogans called for punishment to filmmaker. Addressing the protesters, JI provincial secretary information Israrullah advocate, district head Bahrullah Khan and Shabab-e-Milli leader Jamshid Munir criticised the US and West for launching negative propaganda against the Muslims and called for unity among the Islamic countries. They announced to stage protest outside the US Consulate General in Peshawar on September 18 and said thousands of people would take part in the demonstration. NOWSHERA: Hundreds of enraged residents, activists of JUI-F and Traders Action Committee staged protest and gave 48-hour deadline to the government to lodge protest with the United States and expel the US ambassador over the blasphemous video. The protesters, carrying placards and banners, also blocked the Grand Trunk Road near Shobra Chowk.The protesters led by JUI-F district head Qari Muhammad Aslam and traders’ president Ayaz Paracha burnt the effigy of US president and urged the government to block the video posted online. TAKHT BHAI: The traders in Takht Bhai observed shutdown to condemn the blasphemous video and demanded the government to stop Nato supplies in protest.Traders’ representative Tariq Khan said the production of the movie was to provoke the Muslims to resort to violence. MINGORA: The members of JUI-F took out a rally and blocked the main road near Green Chowk to protest the sacrilegious video. The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with anti-US slogans and raised slogans against the US. They demanded the government to break off diplomatic ties with the US. BATKHELA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leaders and activists took out protest rally against the sacrilegious movie.Led by provincial deputy chief Haroon Rashid, the protesters were carrying banners and placards and chanted slogan against America and the government. They marched to the Malakand Press Club. Addressing the protest rally, Haroon Rashid and former member National Assembly Bakhtiar Maani denounced the blasphemous movie. GHALLANAI: The activists of PTI and JI also staged demonstrations at Mian Mandi Bazaar in Mohmand Agency and blocked main road for over an hour. They protesters, led by Dr Munsif Khan of the JI and Rahim Shah Mohmand of the PTI, burnt American flag and an effigy of US president Barack Obama to condemn the anti-Islamic film.
