‘Misuse’ of Christian properties resented

PESHAWAR: Members of Christian Welfare Society (CWS) have expressed concern over the demolition of the Christian graveyard and educational institutions and use of the properties for commercial purposes in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Javed Pyara, Chairman Maseehi Awami Society, told a news conference that phase-wise protest and hunger strike campaign outside the Supreme Court would be launched if the government failed to take practical steps in this regard. Flanked by Jimmy Mitho and Basharat Khokar, Javed Pyara alleged that Humphrey Sarfaraz Peter was an illegal bishop and all his activities were illegal.
He said the so-called bishops were in fact contractors who had started demolishing Christian graveyards and educational institutions to construct shopping plazas and other commercial purposes. In Dera Ismail Khan, he added that demolition of the Christian graveyard had started and its land being was parcelled into plots for sale.
Javed Pyara said even trees from the Mission Compound were sold. He said in Bannu a shopping centre and commercial plaza were being constructed after demolishing a Christian school. He said that preparations were underway for building an illegal plaza on the land of the Mission Hospital in Peshawar.
He said Maseehi Welfare Society would organise hunger strike in protest from September 11 outside the Bishop House in Peshawar, from September 16 in Dera Ismail Khan and from September 24 in Mardan.
He appealed to the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court to take notice of the demolition of graveyard and educational institutions of the Christian community.
